Short CV

My Name is Nazimul Islam and you can call me Naz. I am currently working as a Doctoral Researcher (PhD) at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland with the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship. Previously, I studied an MSc in River Basin Dynamics and Management with GIS from the School of Geography, University of Leeds, UK and also successfully completed my BSc (Honours) in Geography, followed by my first MSc in Geography and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Remote Sensing and GIS from India.

I have also worked with different national and international consultancy firms and institutions both in India and in the United Kingdom. My most recent employment was in the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, India as a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) and while I was pursuing my MSc in the UK, I worked at the JBA Consulting as a Junior Flood Modeller (part-time) and also did an internship at the Geocurve Ltd as a Drone Data Analyst.

Besides my academic research and professional activities, I am also passionate about creating different types of vlogs (e.g. academic, travel and motivational) for my YouTube channel (Geonaz) to motivate and inspire juniors who follow my day to day activities. You are welcome to connect me on different social media platforms (e.g. Twitter, LinkedIn, ResearchGate, YouTube, Instagram and Facebook) to know more about my research work and travelling activities.

My primary research interest is on the glacial hydrology and natural hazards on the Himalayas and on the Alps. Moreover, I am Keen to understand how the glacier meltwater influence the streamflow and increase the risk of outburst floods in the downstream under the climate change. Detailed information are available in the Research section to know more about my research project.
