Urban Ecosystem Management Training, at JMI, New Delhi India
During the PG Diploma studies, I did a GIAN training course on 'Global Cities Sustainability and Management of the Urban Ecosystem' at the Department of Geography, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, India from November 01- 05, 2016. The overall objectives of the course were to develop an understanding of urban ecosystem, to exchange ideas and knowledge of innovative and integrated approaches for urban ecosystem management from Asian and European perspectives, and to join efforts in order to enhance higher education on urban environmental management and planning. Professor Jurgen Breuste who is the head of the Urban and Landscape Ecology research group at the Department of Geography and Geology, University of Salzburg, Austria and Professor Atiqur Rahman from the Department of Geography, Jamia Millia Islamia were the two tutors of this course.
This course was highly effective to understand various environmental issues in the cities mainly in India and also became familiar with the best management practices (BMPs) implement to manage the urban environment in developed countries in Europe. During this course, we had visited to the protected bird sanctuary in the campus of JMI.
