International Conference on Water and Flood Management at BUET, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh from Mar 02-04, 2019.
Recently, I have attended and presented a paper at the 7th International Conference on Water and Flood Management (ICWFM) at the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in Bangladesh from March 02 to 04, 2019. The title of my presentation was 'A GIS-based Monte Carlo Least Cost Path (MC-LCP) method for assessing the outburst flood risk from Phunri Glacial Lake, Sikkim Himalayas, India' under the theme of Hydrometeorological Hazards and Risk.
It is the largest conference in flood management in Bangladesh which is organised in every two years by the BUET. This year it was funded by the Kingdom of Netherlands and inaugurated by his Excellency Harry Verweij, Ambassador, Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Bangladesh. Participants from more than twenty different nationalities who are committed towards the flood management attended and showed their research works. It was a good gathering to share ideas and exchange knowledge for future work to achieve sustainable development goals. I had the opportunities to listen to many interesting presentations delivered by the energetic colleagues from differnt institutions and to attend plenary sessions. The main focus of this three days conference was to harness innovative ideas for flood management with particular focus on Bangladesh and developing nations through international collaborations (e.g Bangladesh Delta Plan). More information about the conference are available at ICWFM-2019
